Annual Turnover
In the year 1995 a separate Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was established to ensure the development and propagation of traditional systems of medicine. Later in November 2003, the department was renamed as Department of AYUSH.
On 9th November 2014, AYUSH became a separate Ministry under the Government of India. AYUSH stands for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. Sowa Rigpa was officially recognized under the IMCC Act, 1970.
The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) promotes affordable healthcare, strengthening of AYUSH educational institutions, quality control of AYUSH medicines and sustainable availability of medicinal plants and raw materials.
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest healthcare systems and means “Science of Life.” It provides preventive, promotive and curative healthcare through natural and holistic treatment methods.
Unani medicine is based on the theory of four humours and focuses on restoring balance in the body through diet, lifestyle and natural therapies.
Siddha is an ancient Indian medical system closely associated with Dravidian culture and emphasizes individualized diagnosis and treatment.
Yoga promotes physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing through meditation, breathing exercises and postures, while Naturopathy focuses on natural healing methods and healthy living.
Homoeopathy follows the principle “Like cures Like” and uses highly diluted medicines to stimulate the body's self-healing process.
Sowa Rigpa, popularly known as Tibetan Medicine, is one of the oldest documented medical traditions and has close relation with Ayurveda.
The Government Ayurvedic Pharmacy was established at Naharlagun during 2004-05 under the centrally sponsored scheme for quality control of AYUSH medicines.
The pharmacy manufactures Ayurvedic medicines following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and supplies quality medicines within Arunachal Pradesh and North Eastern States.
Presently, the pharmacy manufactures 89 Ayurvedic medicines listed under the Essential Drug List of National AYUSH Mission.
The Government of Arunachal Pradesh established the Drugs Testing Laboratory to ensure availability of quality medicines in hospitals, pharmacies and health centres.
The laboratory tests medicines for identity, purity and strength under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and helps prevent the circulation of spurious and substandard drugs.
